Veterinary Practice Partner Program (VP3) is a program where the Colorado Veterinary Medical Foundation (CVMF) is building partnerships with the general public and veterinary practices that will help the foundation address critical animal health and safety needs throughout Colorado.

CVMF is asking veterinary practices throughout Colorado to donate to the foundation in partnership with their clients. The cumulative effect of this program has incredible potential to provide thousands of dollars in long-term funding for CVMF programs that will impact your community and all of Colorado.

VP3 is open to all veterinary practices, from single practitioners to large corporate practices. Whether you treat cats, dogs, exotics, horses, cattle, or any animal, there is a place for you in this program.

VP3 fundraising examples (not limited to the following):
• Donate a percentage of net sales whether annually, quarterly or on a set day(s) in the year .
• Promote and raise dollars for CVMF and its programs through your corporate newsletters.
• Promote and raise dollars for CVMF and its programs through your corporate advertising.
• Allow CVMF to place a “Donation Box” on the counter at your business.
• Ask customers if they would like to donate a dollar amount to CVMF on their bill/invoice.
• Offer customers an incentive through offering them a discounted fee on their bill or paying the full price and the discounted fee is donated.
• Donate a set dollar amount for each euthanasia or birthing your company performs.
• Donate a set dollar amount for each spay/neuter surgery.
• Donate a set dollar amount for each wellness checkup.
• Allow CVMF to mail their newsletter to your mailing list.
• Donate unused/expired medical supplies.
• Create an event that promotes and/or raises dollars for CVMF.

Your clients look to you for professional expertise, friendship, and even moral guidance. The public expects the veterinary community to be at the forefront of many of these issues. By being the conduit for massive numbers of smaller donations from the public, the veterinary profession can create a healthier, safer, and more compassionate future for Colorado.

Participating practices will be recognized in CVMF publications, through out Web site, and annually at the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association’s annual convention.

Gifting of Appreciated Securities
Giving appreciated securities or mutual fund shares that you have owned for more than one year is one of the best ways of giving to CVMF. Such a gift can maximize your tax savings and the impact you can have on CVMF and its programs.

Making gifts of appreciated securities need not be complicated. When giving securities be sure to consult with your financial advisors and/or attorney. Additional time should be allowed for completion of such gift transactions.

Legacy Gifts
Many people would like to help strengthen the long-term viability of CVMF but feel they cannot afford to make such a gift today. A bequest by will is a unique way to ensure that CVMF’s work will continue into the future. Your bequest can be tailored to complement your personal lifestyle and financial goals and support CVMF.

What are the advantages of making a bequest?
• It is not payable until death, so it does not affect your assets or cash flow during your lifetime.
• It is private – your will is not filed or made public until your death.
• It is revocable – you can change the provisions in your will at any time until death.

What is the best way to include CVMF in your will?
When including a provision of us in your will, you will want to make sure that your intention is stated clearly and that you have our correct name and address. It would be prudent if you or your advisor calls us before drafting the document to ensure that the information you are including is accurate.

Here are some of your options:
• How your gift will be used: You may opt to designate a particular program at CVMF as beneficiary of your gift, or you may leave your gift to be used at the discretion of our Board of Directors.

• What form your gift should take: You may choose to designate that we receive a specific sum from your estate (for example $5,000), or you may choose to leave a percentage of your estate (for example 5%).

• What asset you should use: You can give almost any kind of asset through a bequest, including cash, securities, an interest in real estate, life insurance policies, or the remainder of your IRA, tax-sheltered annuity, qualified pension or profit-sharing plans.

Will your gift be deductible?
A charitable bequest is deductible for federal estate tax purposes, and there is no limit on the deduction your estate can claim. In addition, the gift is usually exempt from state inheritance taxes.

What if you have already written your will?
You can amend a will to make a gift without rewriting the entire document. Your attorney can prepare the simple statement, called a codicil that adds a new bequest to us while reaffirming the other terms of your will.

If you have or plan to include CVMF in a bequest provision, please notify us by using the CVMF Bequest Intention form so that we ensure your wishes can be fulfilled.

For questions about leaving CVMF in your will, please contact Sharon Kay Brown, Director of Development, at 303.539.7635 or by email at SharonBrown@colovma.org.

As with any decision involving your estate plans, we urge you to seek the advice of professional counsel when considering a gift to CVMF.

Memorial/Tribute Wall Tiles
Remember Your Special Pet or Loved One

Through its memorial tile wall, CVMF offers you a chance to remember your special pet in a beautiful manner, while assisting the foundation in its important work. The wall is located at the south entrance to Harrison Memorial Animal Hospital and you may choose either the full-tile design, with five lines of inscription and two icons, or the half-tile design, with three lines of inscription and one icon. Wall tiles become permanent expressions of the memory of your treasured companion. For more details, click here.

Donate a Car
Do you have a vehicle that you no longer need? Are you tired of trying to sell it? Is it taking valuable space in the garage? From antique autos to salvage cars, you can make a difference. You can donate your vehicle to CVMF, and your donation may be tax deductible. It's a win-win situation for all.
To donate your car, truck, boat, recreational vehicle, camper and more, or to have your questions answered, please call Cars for Colorado at 303.853.4125 or go to their Web site at
http://www.carsforcolorado.org/.

Be sure to mention CVMF as your charity recipient!

In Kind Donations
Gifts in kind (GIK) is a kind of charitable giving in which, instead of giving money to buy needed goods and services, the goods and services themselves are given.

The CVMF Office of Development needs a Gift-In-Kind Form along with a description of the property and its value at the time of contribution. With this information the CVMF Development Office can issue an appropriate receipt.
