Who We Are
Mission Statement: The mission of the Colorado Veterinary Medical Foundation (CVMF) is to make Colorado a better place for animals and people.
Brief Summary of History: The Colorado Veterinary Medical Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, was created in 2002 to support education, scholarship, and service programs that improve animal health and welfare in Colorado. The involvement of veterinarians makes the foundation unique, allowing it to make the broadest impact on animal health and to offer services and insights that no other group can. In short, the foundation exists to make Colorado a better place for animals and people.
The Colorado Veterinary Medical Foundation is headquartered at the CVMF Harrison Center for Animals, where animal lovers of all ages and animal health professionals alike can broaden their understanding of veterinary medicine and celebrate the human-animal bond, and where animal-related organizations can more effectively share both ideas and resources.
Today, CVMF provides a safety net for all of Colorado’s animals. With diverse programs that seek to address an array of animal health and welfare issues, CVMF serves as a consensus builder and a visionary organization ready to lead in the future.
Organizational Goals
Goal 1: To provide quality, comprehensive, and compassionate donor-subsidized veterinary care while promoting the humane treatment of animals.
Goal 2: To provide veterinary care for pets of home-bound individuals living on fixed incomes.
Goal 3: To promote scholarship opportunities for veterinary students.
Goal 4: To reduce pet overpopulation and promote responsible care of companion animals.
Goal 5: To recognize, highlight, and celebrate the human-animal bond.
Goal 6:To provide animal emergency preparedness and response services to benefit animals and people.
CVMF as a whole has grown considerably in a short amount of time in the past two and a half years. In January 2007, CVMF merged with Harrison Memorial Animal Hospital, the largest not-for-profit veterinary hospital in Colorado. After that merger, Animal Assistance Foundation, the owner of the 22,000 square-foot facility, gifted the building to CVMF. The CVMF Harrison Center for Animals provides office space, storage capacity, clinical facilities, classroom and conference room space, and a permanent home for all CVMF programs. CVMF is partnering with the veterinary associations and other organizations in supporting public outreach and educational programs in animal health and welfare.
